Scout Test Fit. Almost ready

Post by stasz »

I finished my flak vest yesterday and had my wife snap a couple pictures while i had everything on.
In these pics, I'm missing the mudflap and shoulder bridge covers. The thigh boxes were just clamped in place as i was adjusting the strap lengths.

I'm gonna get some proper pictures together for Ripcode in the next day or two!

Looks pretty good!
I can't tell from the lighting but do you have the vest, butt flap, and thigh patches?

Vest and thigh patches - yes.
Missing the mudflap here. All that work putting everything on and I forgot!

Thanks! It's been an absolute blast working on this. Can't wait to get out there.

Thanks, Ripcode.

Yeah, I knew this wouldn't fly. Just a quick pic while I was suited up. I pretty much look for any excuse to put it on :)

I spoke with a photographer friend whom I'll be getting together with this weekend for my pics. Rather than bother with my phone camera, I figure I'll get the best quality shots that way. I don't want to waste your -or my- time.

I appreciate the advice!

And thanks, Brewski! I took my time, did a lot of research, and the gang over at BS.N has been top notch. I'm proud of it.

We have a trading card program for members. So some studio quality shots would come in handy for that.

You only need to worry about the pic of you. Background and everything else is taken care of by the trading card staff.

For example - My wifes card:

As long as you send me decent pics, you should be good to go. Your test fit looks great! :D

I am finishing up on my Scout. I am having a lady do my Vest and Flight suit Patches this week. I am also going to get rivets and attach my holster to my boot in the next cpl days. After that there is a small situation with my forearm armor that only has an elastic strap attached to one side, instead of two. Other than that, I should be all set.

I MIGHT need to stick some cardboard (or something) in my pouches and possibly see about un-scrunching my cummerbund in the crotch area. LOL. I'll see what everything looks like when I finally get everything all on.

A lot of people stick foam blocks in the pouches. Also when attaching your holster to the boot, don't rivet them to the boot fabric only. Run a strip of plastic between both top rivets inside the boot and rivet through both the boot and then the internal piece of plastic. Do the same thing on bottom. Helps support it better from ripping the rivets out if it was through the cloth only.

Studio Creations includes a strip of ABS for this very purpose - reinforcing the holster rivets. That marine vinyl is tough, but not that tough. It will stretch and wear. I used backing washers on all my rivet joints as well.

For my pouches, I made box inserts out of foam board so they hold the shape, but I can still put stuff in them. Once I get my Aker, it'll be the perfect spot.

Agreed on the foam. I just bought foam from Joanns, then I cut/hollowed out areas within the block of foam. One side is hollowed out for my amp and the other has enough room for cards, phone, granola bar, small bottle of fireball whiskey for cold forest nights etc :D
