Re: Michigan 501st - CHARITY HISTORY
Derek- thanks for info. So the Legion Charity Officer forgot to include the GLG's 2012 totals, as we should be listed as the #3 garrison for $ raised.

Re: Michigan 501st - CHARITY HISTORY
I have just calculated the total money raised for charities for 2013.
The grand total for 2013 is $24,300.14 .
I would personally like to thank you all for volunteering your time attending charity events or events where a contribution was made for our appearance.
The amount calculated does not include all the charity events that we have attended. There are several events, ie sponsored walks, where we do not get notified of funds raised and we are not the main reason for the event.
Amount will be submitted to the 501st Charity Officer to add to the 501st Charitable total for 2013.
Looking forward to raising more money for charities in 2014.

Re: Michigan 501st - CHARITY HISTORY
Do we have a separate 2014 topic that I'm missing or have we not started keeping count yet?
USA Hockey raised $4,250 for C.S. Mott Children's Hospital.
$1,240 was raised at Cherry Capital Comic Con for Walking With Giants Foundation.

Of course I've been keeping count! However, for 2014 there have been changes to logging charity donations, etc.
This year the 501st requested that charity entries are entered (by the Garrison Charity Reps) through this website.
http://501stlegioncharity.com/
This information will be available at the end of the year, and this data is used by the 501st to calculate the total amount raised (directly/indirectly) by the 501st and per Garrison.
I also keep a spreadsheet listing all the events/charity/amount, etc. for GLG for 2014.

Re: Michigan 501st - CHARITY HISTORY
Please check through this list to make sure I have all charity donations logged (to date) for 2014.
If you find an event I have missed please PM me.
Next week I will start to register these events on
http://501stlegioncharity.com/
This website is now running, after experiencing some "teething difficulties"
You will notice that there are "direct" and "indirect" donations.
Direct- Donations received for our appearance (eg, birthday parties, Star Wars themed events)
Indirect - Donations received for an event, although we may not necessarily be the reason for the event (eg, sponsored walks, school events)

Re: Michigan 501st - CHARITY HISTORY
There have been a few minimal changes within the way the 501st track charity events.
If you attend an event and receive a donation (or a donation is made on behalf of our appearance) please let me know the following information:
1) Event description/date
2) Charity and amount
3) If the donation was a Direct/Indirect* donation.
*"Direct" is for events where a donation was made purely for our appearance, eg birthday parties.
"Indirect" is for events where we are not necessarily the main reason for the event, eg charity walks.
4) Number of 501st troops in attendance.
5) Hours spent trooping (approximately)
6) Not necessary, but a photo is always appreciated that the 501st can then share.
Most of this information I can obtain from the event threads, but it makes my life easier if I get this information directly from the event co-ordinator, when the event has been completed.
I have created a google document to keep track of 2015 events and a photobucket album for photos.
Thank you

Re: Michigan 501st - CHARITY HISTORY
I am in the process of generating the final charitable donations we received for 2015.
If you have not given me the total raised from an event last year (either on the event thread or PM’d me) can you please do so this week.
For events in 2016, it would be appreciated if you provide me with the following information:
Event Name
Event Date
Charity Supported
Number of 501st members at event
Length of event (in hours)
Direct money received (or indirect money received, if we were not the main reason for the event, eg. Charity walks)
A brief summary of the event would also be appreciated, along with a photograph.
I will then provide this information directly to the 501st charity tracking website, which in turn gets fed to LFL/Disney.

Re: Michigan 501st - CHARITY HISTORY
I am systematically going through all the completed events for 2015, making sure I haven't missed any charitable donations, etc. (I have found a few!)
However, one thing that I am noticing is there are some events (from low-key private events to high profile sports events) that state that the event organizer (or host) will make a donation to a certain charity. But, then there is no response or follow up on the thread, stating how much was raised and for which charity.
Also if you attend a charity walk (or other charity event) can you please follow up with the organizers to see how much was raised. I am just as "guilty" of this
This all helps in increasing our total donations received (directly and in-directly)
Thank you

Re: Michigan 501st - CHARITY HISTORY
I am pleased to announced we helped raise $3,159,683.64 for charity in 2016.
$15,916.64 Direct Donations (Donations received directly for our appearance at an event, eg Birthday Party)
$3,143,767.00 Indirect Donations (Donations received indirectly at events we have attended, but not the main reason for an event, eg Charity Walks)
Below is a link showing the breakdown of the donations tracking document.
This information has been cascaded to the 501st, which they will use for their press release next month.
I noticed going through all the completed events last year, that there were a lot of events where the host said they would make a donation, but we never heard back from them. This may not necessarily mean they didn't donate, but unfortunately I can not add a donation amount if I don't get feedback from the event co-coordinator.
Therefore, if you are an event co-ordinator and it 's a charity event or you receive a charity donation for our appearance, please let me know the donation amount, what the charity is, and also any other relevant information, photos, etc. All this information gets cascaded to the 501st who use it for promotional use and to Disney/LFL.
Thank you everyone who helped raise money to all the charities we supported last year.

I am pleased to announced we helped raise $3,400,183.86 for charity in 2017.

$3,390,289.58 Indirect Donations (Donations received indirectly at events we have attended, but not the main reason for an event, eg Charity Walks)
Below is the breakdown of the donations tracking document.
The 501st Charity Officers also wanted additional information this year, indicating the total amount of characters per event (including NCS) and estimated hours attended for each event.
This information has been cascaded to the 501st, which they will use for their press release and other promotional purposes.

Waiting on the proceeds raised by the jersey auctions before I can get you a total for the 2018 USA Hockey Star Wars night but in my discussions so far with the representative, he mentioned that the $33K we showed for last year is actually the total over the last four years. He said that they just recently achieved $40K in the fifth year. Not sure if that was understood in your accounting and you were just catching up with that but I didn’t want anyone expecting another $30K+ this year. Sorry to be a downer.
I’ll get you total when he sends it.
