paint cracking
sprayed a base coat of krylon fusion white and then sprayed on rustoleum automotive primer gray. cracks every time. this is the 5th time i've had to sand the paint off. getting extremely frustrated. am i doing something wrong or is krylon and rustoleum incompatible?

Yes, sometimes different brands don't mix well.DeafTrooper wrote:sprayed a base coat of krylon fusion white and then sprayed on rustoleum automotive primer gray. cracks every time. this is the 5th time i've had to sand the paint off. getting extremely frustrated. am i doing something wrong or is krylon and rustoleum incompatible?
And why are you spraying primer over Krylon Fusion?

Use some kind of Rustoluem white. Find some scrap ABS and do a paint test.
Also, lay the paint layers on as thin as you can.

Re: paint cracking
Keep to the same brands and styles. Chemical incompatibility is the #1 culprit of bad curing (cracks, peels, resistance to drying, etc.). If you start with Fusion, stay with other Fusion colors.

Re: paint cracking
For some reason I could never get fusion paint to work right. So I got some paint at the TSC store. It was some kind of industrial quick drying recoat anytime paint. I forgot the name of it, but I have a can in my mom's garage so I'll take a pic of it when I go to visit tomorrow.
Or maybe this paint would work

Re: paint cracking
Personally, I hate Fusion. It's designed more for repainting yard furniture and not a high quality costume piece. I really like using Rustoleum Professional primers and paints, then top coating with any paint I choose after that. You can get them at Home Depot or the Meijer right on 26 Mile Rd, Joe.

Re: paint cracking
thanks for the help guys! it's times like these when you really realize how much of a noob you really are.
my buddies are having fun poking fun at me for it. LOL i ended up getting some rustoleum white primer while at the sandusky walmart (usually my first stop of the day for work (yah, marine city to sandusky and back every day
)). apparently, those hick towns have vandal probs, as i had to get cashier approval just to buy the stuff.
first time i've ever had that happen.
EDIT: by the way, wags, ever figure out when an armor party will happen?
